Chiropractic Care for Hip, Knee and Ankle Problems

Many patients come in with pain in their lower extremities which covers the area from your hips to your knees to your ankles. These issues are common in the United States. As of 2015, nearly 7 million U.S. adults are living with a hip or knee replacement. Before opting for a painful and costly surgery, be sure you’ve exhausted more conservative efforts first, like chiropractic care.

Commonly Seen Lower Extremity Pain and Problems Conditions in the lower extremity area of the body typically involve the soft and hard tissues in your hips, knees and ankles, and are often the result of wear and tear, injury or overuse. Specifically affected joints include the hips, knees and ankles.

Hip Problems

Critical joints in the body, your hips control much of your movement. Injury or dysfunction can result in pain ranging from sharp to dull or numbing and tingling. Some common conditions and symptoms we see and treat in our offices include bursitis (joint pain caused by burning and swelling), sciatica (nerve pain that extends from buttock to legs), strains (inflammation) and arthritis.

Knee Problems

Your knee contains muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage and is one of the most commonly injured joints in the body. Pain and symptoms can arise from conditions such as bursitis, runner’s knee (front and outside knee pain), tendonitis (inflamed tendons in the knee), degenerative arthritis and strain (ACL, MCL or meniscus).

Ankle Problems

Pain in the foot and ankle are often the result of a sprain. Other common issues include shin splints (pain in the lower leg through the ankle and foot), Achilles tendonitis (pain in the back of the ankle and heel), plantar fasciitis (sharp pain near heel of the foot) and heal spurs.

Treating Lower Extremity Pain Issues with Chiropractic Care

If you’re experiencing pain in your lower extremities, a chiropractor can help determine the cause of your pain and devise a treatment plan that fits your individual needs. Experts in the musculoskeletal system, a chiropractic physician will use a combination of chiropractic adjustments and therapies to restore function, increase range of motion and relieve pain. Since treatment is case specific, the best course of action is to schedule an exam with your chiropractor so he or she can create a course of treatment.

Bracing for Lower Extremities

If recommended by your doctor of chiropractic, bracing can be another clinically proven, safe and effective way to decrease pain in addition to chiropractic care. At our clinics, we offer a variety of bracing options that can reduce pressure, provide stabilization and relieve pain for joints such as your knee and ankle.
