Lower Back Pain

Most people will experience lower back pain at some time during their life. Dr. Steve Silverston has been helping his patients find relief from lower back pain for over 30 years.

Many people experience lower back pain on a daily basis

Around 10% of your nervous system is capable of feeling pain, and when you feel pain in your lower back, it is your body making you aware that something is wrong. Lower back pain is often due to pressure on the nerves, subluxations (misalignments) to the vertebrae in the lower back, or an irritation to the nervous system. Your body's nervous system runs from the brain down inside the spinal cord canal and controls every aspect and function of your body, including muscles and organs.

Common Causes of Lower Back Pain

  • Sitting too much
  • Subluxations (misalignments)
  • Working at a desk or computer many hours a day
  • Herniated Disc or other types of Disc Degeneration
  • Poor posture (sitting and standing) over time
  • Doing a lot of lifting, and improper lifting
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pregnancy putting pressure on the spine
  • Previous injuries and accident trauma
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Stress: Physical, Mental, or Chemical
  • More

When you are experiencing lower back pain, it is vital to seek professional chiropractic care. Often, lower back pain issues may have been developing over months or years before you start to feel lower back pain. Ignoring lower back pain, or taking pain medications to hide the pain, will not make the cause of your problem go away. Causes of lower back pain will continue to degenerate leading to additional problems like osteoarthritis. In some cases when lower back pain has been left untreated for too long, the degeneration progresses to the point where you may need surgery.

Impingement of the sciatic nerve will often be a contributing factor to your lower back pain. The sciatic nerve is the largest in the body. It starts at the lower back and runs down the back of your legs all the way to your toes. When there is pressure on the sciatic nerve it often manifests as lower back pain, pain running down your legs, tingling or numbness in the legs or toes.
